Since his very beginnings Adel Abdessemed has a clear vision about what art is meant to convey. A certain idea of the world to which we can relate through one or the other piece of art. The artist transcends the anger he could had have regarding his personal story, to deliver powerful universal art pieces.

Politic, religion, relationship with the power are the main subjects he treats through different means like sculpture, installation, video or just charcoal on paper. Many times he puts himself at risk like in the video “Helikoptère”, 2007 or “Separation”, 2006 or “Je suis innocent” (I’m not guilty) in 2012. His art is so meaningful that it makes us shift the lines.

Since his first personal exhibition in Paris in 2006 I see his body of work being built to become one of the major conceptual artist in Europe. BCh.
