ALAC 2015 Edition, Where is the artist’s commitment?

Hey Artists and gallerists from Los Angeles, what’s going on? What’s wrong with you?
Is it because of the permanent blue sky and your easy life in Los Angeles? Were you tired like Wrinkle Decker’s Lazy Boy shown at the entrance of the art fair?

Is there any reason to explain why your paintings -your artworks in general- showed both great talent and such an emptiness?!

Some paintings were really good (see below) but some were just the kind you ask for to bring a “contemporary feeling” to the house you plan to sell!

Come on Artists, you are obviously skilled, so A/ think more than technique and B/ dig a little and bring some commitment to you work! I’m sure you have something to say. Thanks. BCh

 

Perfect organization

The whole organization of ALAC was excellent:

• Still at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, which brings by itself a cutting edge touch.
• The welcome was warm, the Press staff was professional as well as the VIP welcoming and inside a pleasant lay out to facilitate the flow of visitors and also their meeting/chatting with friends.
• The programming offered a variety of events from the launching of “Freeway eye wear” by artist Raymond Petitbon and ForYourArt through conversation “Collector as Curator” and the VIP programming offered a panel of visits in houses of collectors and brunches or cocktails in  galleries and museums.

Despina Stokou is from Greece and worked for a while in Berlin, Germany. Her paintings are absolutely not the kind to see with the Internet. The image doesn’t show the layers, the complexity of the painting, the meaning, the words…

The German Artist mixes the paradox, she works with classical technique on contemporary subjects. The subject is often a little piece of something -an item or an image- she turns into an organic element that becomes critical on the painting, like a messag to the world, when it’s nothing, just a piece of something! very interesting.

The free gesture of this young Bulgarian, London-based artist is certainly to watch over…

There was mystery, light, great technique. This little sweet painting on board was a perfection.

Best Artist: Tomory Dodge

 

We follow Tomory Dodge since his last exhibition at ACME in 2013.  He is a great painter who creates a strong body of work. 

The painting shown at ALAC was an interesting complex one. A web of several layers creates depth combined with multiple stripes that explode the boundaries of the frame.
