EMERGING ARTIST: French painter Sophie Ledain
I know Sophie for years now and I am very pleased to put her in our Established section. Ledain’s artist career is a lesson in determination and tenacity…. Since her beginnings she knew where she wanted to go. She went through different paths and bam that’s it! there she is: she found her path.
She draws/paints a strong personal universe made of nostalgia, mystery. Indubitably with the new series of paintings she embarks us in romantic stories that could come off the “Elective Affinities” from German novelist Goethe.
With the painting below “Ascension” the angle taken invites the viewer to be part of the scene, ready to go to that door where the light comes from. The woman drawn with her draperies is stretching out of the walls makings crakcs all around. What is behind the door? that’s your turn to guess. BCh
