The curatorial program of this wonderful old contemporary museum leads to the discovery of artists living in the area of Angers. We still have stuck in mind the amazing retrospective of well known French artist François Morellet and today on display is Polish artist Edward Baran.

The whole retrospective shows all the aspects of Baran’s art work and more it shows perfectly the evolution of it.

From his woven solid compositions the artist switched to finally keep just the bones of them. Since 1978 he creates series of “papiers évidés” (hollowed papers) made of thread and painted paper. The process is the one of deconstruction: like a spider he creates his web on which he glues layers of papers he paints with water colors. Then he tears the papers gently all over the surface. The result is an astonishing extremely delicate web-painting. BCh
